Family Websurfing

I've found some terrific sites for families...and family projects that will let you surf the Web, as a family, and enjoy it...

Share special ideas and sites you've found with me...and I'll share it with others here at the site...

Children's Television Workshop

My kids are older now, but I used to enjoy watching Sesame Street with them, laughing at all the jokes they didn't get, while they laughed at all the ones I didn't get <g>... it hasn't changed. My niece spends most of her waking hours at the CTW site, reading and rereading Elmo's pages...make sure you have an extra color printer cartridge...you'll wear them out fast printing out all of the pages your kids want from the site...

The site is being redesigned from top to bottom...Tina Sharkey, one of the most talented family website executive producers has applied all of her talent to building a site worthy of CTW. (You'll note that the parents safety page is particularly well done, by moi! <g>)

Disney Online

Disney has always provided content that appeals equally to parents, grandparents and children. They do the same online. They actually have three sites, two of them are free: www.disney.com and www.family.com. Disney's Daily Blast is a subscription site, and costs about $6.00 per month. (It's supplied free to any Microsoft Network member, though...) It has much more Disney entertainment content, though, and is worth the price. Better yet, join MSN as your ISP, and get it for free. If you have young children, it more than pays for itself in family enjoyment...

Kids-Space

This site is designed by Sachi Oba, a remarkable young woman with two degrees from Columbia University relating to children and education. And it shows. She has great pages that allow children to compose and play music online, and collaborate in creative projects online.

PBS Kids

PBS, the home of Children's Television Workshop and Arthur and other favorite television shows our children enjoy, also has a wonderful site. It's where you can find many sites relating to these shows. They even teach important online safety information to children. (It's safety quizes are quite a challenge for parents too!)
