Child Advocacy

I will be building this page every few days...so make sure you check back frequently.

I am designing this page for members of the law enforcement community, in order to give them a heads up on the latest in child advocacy, as well as giving them a forum to share what they're doing with other members of the law enforcement community and child advocacy groups.I also want parents to know what law enforcement is doing to keep their kids safe.

I hope to highlight the problems law enforcement faces, with lack of adequate funding and trained technology experts. I also hope to try to form some partnerships between private and public groups to address kids online safety issues and education.

I'd like you to share your successes and programs with us...we'll try to get the word out...together!

In the meantime, I'll provide a few links here, and will be building this page as fast as I can...

Charged with the task of finding imports and exports of child pornography, this group has found itself smack on the firing line when it comes to online abuses of children. Their hotline number, 1-800-BE-ALERT, will take calls from people who have information on child pornography or other abuses of children online and forward it to the appropriate law enforcement agency. These are terrific and motivated people, but lack sufficient funding to get the massive job done...

The FBI has jurisdiction over online crimes against children. There are lots of programs run by the FBI to keep kids safe, online and off.

Last year, the FBI was awarded a recurring $10 million grant. It's a start! (Click on the graphic to access their kids and youth educational page...We're all in this together!)

The FTC handles online scams and is especially concerned about advertising to children online and abuses of information gathered online from children. If you have a complaint or concern about a scam you think you've found online...or a site that gathers information and doesn't tell you what they're doing with it...drop an e-mail to the FTC. (Click on their logo to go to their site...) If you want more info on their online privacy program, click here.

Socum.gif (14039 bytes) SOC-UM is a not-for-profit organization devoted to helping keep our children safe form predators online and off. Run by Debbie Mahoney, one of my favorite people in the world, this organization makes a real difference. Check out the website, by clicking on their logo, and make sure to tell Debbie that Parry sent you...

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is the most well-known out of all of the child advocacy groups. Recently, together with the U.S. Government, they created a hotline for online child abuse, child pornography and child stalking cases...Got something you want to report? Call 1-800-THE-LOST. The NCMEC will make sure it's forwarded to the right law enforcement agency. To check out their site, click on their logo.
